Is it So Bad??

Having a fling or an affair. Is it so bad for a relationship? Is this what’s killing the American family? Killing off marriages?? I think not. It’s the lack of communication, the ability to be honest with ourselves and honest those that we love.
What got me on this rant is the other night when I was watching TV with Mr Wonderful. We both enjoy watching political commentator Sean Hannity and his attacks on things going wrong with our world.
On this show, he was “interviewing” the founder of AshleyMadison.com This is one of my affiliates on this site. I think it was more of an attack on the dark edge of society being pushed onto one person. His take was that people behind such websites are profiting from and encouraging for the sake of profit, the destruction of marriages.
Ashley Madison guarantees an affair or your money back. Somehow this simple website and the guarantee is tempting people to go off and cheat on their spouses. Like they wouldn’t do it anyway…
I happen to not agree with him on this particular point. It is one part of the slippery slide the country is going down, but to blame a website for pushing us further down that slope is kind of stupid.
For me, it boils down to the ability to be honest with the person you are sharing your life with and our ability to allow that loved one to stretch out and try new things. Maybe these are things I don’t like but they may want to try. Let them.
It’s about being able to be strong about what I want and what they need. To know I can’t fulfill everything he wants or needs and he can’t do that for me either. Yet we both know whom we belong to at the end of the night. That is a level of trust and a level of communication very few couple ever have. That’s what I think is wrong and what is tearing up the marriages.
